Flower Shops in New York City

A fast-moving city for a fast-moving girl. I can’t tell if this city is growing on me, or if I am the one growing. Either way, let’s explore a few moments from my third month living in NYC!

New Explorations

Living in a city where almost everything passes in the blink of an eye, I’ve been exploring new activities this month to take the opportunity to expand my experiences. I found a few photographers who were interested in collaborating and the photos they took not only gave me photos for my professional portfolio, but also gave me experience being the center of attention.

Now, I am not saying that I fully enjoyed the attention, but I did feel a boost of confidence when I saw how cool the photographers made each subject look. It was fun, but I was also holding my breath the entire time. I was afraid of doing something wrong, standing the wrong way, messing up the look that the photographers were trying to capture. I was also nervous to see the photos afterward. But believe me, when I say, I was both shocked and overjoyed when I saw the finished photographs.

I honestly couldn’t believe it was me. If you have ever gotten your portrait taken professionally, then you may know the feeling I am referring to. I had done a few modeling gigs years ago, but it was never anything like this and it was not in New York City. Since the first photoshoot in the city, I have now participated in multiple meetups with photographers and even artists as well! I can’t wait to see where this could lead, but for now, I am just enjoying the ride.

All the reasons for flowers

I was sitting in this adorably decorated cafe on the lower east side called Remi Flower & Coffee when I watched a guy walk in and order two bouquets of flowers. He looked like a nice fellow and seemed pretty quiet, but aside from what I learned about him just by observation, I also wondered what the occasion was for those two large bouquets of flowers he was juggling.

The guy walked out of the coffee shop holding a bouquet in each hand and looking satisfied. But he didn’t seem like he was in a hurry, nor lacking a destination. I considered all the reasons people purchase flowers, and as my list grew, I realized that there are more events than I had ever thought of to which someone would bring a bouquet of flowers.

He could have been on his way to a bridal party and wanted to congratulate the couple on their engagement. He could have been preparing for a birthday party of twins, as to give him reason to get two bouquets. On the other hand, he could have been on his way to a funeral to provide the flowers for the ceremony as an act of respect for those who passed. There are so many more events he could have been heading toward, such as a baptism or a wedding, but one idea that I kept returning to was he might have just been on his way home and wanted to either surprise his partner with the flowers or use them to decorate his own apartment for his enjoyment. Though he could have been going to any one of these events, I hope that the flowers he brought fit the occasion well.
